I recently completed another project for my client: University of Houston. Last year I developed a branding scheme for the upcoming conference they are hosting for TAPPA. Adding to that scheme, I designed the conference program with speaker descriptions, adding photos and other key information.

To make the information organized and accessible, I designed a series of visual cues and sections, such as the colored “tabs” and variations in color schemes. The overall look and feel is geared towards TAPPA attendees — engineers, architects, and other building/maintenance related employees.

You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.” — Martin Luther King Jr.

The next time you have some extra time, you might consider volunteering. This is one of the things that keeps me going — making a difference in the lives of others (whether human or creature). These are some of the faces behind my volunteerism for the Seattle Humane Society. Since May 2010, I have welcomed cats without homes into mine for foster care, giving them a break from shelter life — a quiet place with extra love and affection.

My most difficult client to date is myself. After months of scouring the web looking at other portfolios and design firms, I finally decided on a new look and feel for my site. While I wanted to have a fresh look, I hoped to stay true to my “brand” — maintaining clean lines, a modern feel, sans-serif text, and my color scheme.

In addition to the new layout, I changed the emphasis of my color scheme. While I toned down the red, I intend to keep it as my primary accent color. I also integrated a Flash rotating banner to the home page, which I will update as needed to keep things fresh.

You might notice that the blog archive still has the legacy look. That’s an entirely different beast that I will tackle in the coming weeks. So what do you think?
